(HONG KONG) — Hong Kong’s chief Carrie Lam says the ”one nation, two methods” framework beneath which the town enjoys freedoms unknown in China may proceed after 2047 deadline if loyalty to Beijing is upheld.

Lam’s feedback Thursday on the Legislative Council seemed to be an enchantment to these within the metropolis who see Beijing as tightening its management over the semi-autonomous territory’s civic, financial and political life.

Hong Kong was handed over from British to Chinese language rule in 1997 with a promise that it will preserve its personal capitalist financial system and Western-style establishments for 50 years.

“Provided that we insist implementing ‘one nation, two methods’ precept and follow it repeatedly and totally … then I feel there will likely be sufficient grounds for ‘one nation, two methods’ to maneuver forward easily and there could be no change after 2047,” Lam mentioned in her remarks.
